I stubbed the second smallest toe on my right foot last Wednesday (10/18/06) while trying to get around a big chair. The bruise is still purple today. (10/22/06)

Okay, I know I bruised my toe, but it is not broken. I can still move it around without pain. It just hurts when I touch it like any other bruise.

You're not going to like this answer but it can take 6-8 weeks for the pain to completely go away if the bruise is bad enough. I did this last spring and I swear it took longer to heal than my knee injury! If the bruise is staying that long - it is entirely possible you fractured it. If so - there isn't really anything you can do except "buddy tape" it to the adjoining toe. Be sure to put some padding between the two toes before taping.

This is helpful. Today is my third week with the base of my toes still a little bruised and with some pain when I walk. It has gotten much better nut I still can't walk totally normal as before. I will give it another 1-2 weeks then.

Sounds like it's broken- if it's still painful, put a piece of cotton in between the 2 two and tape them together- my son thought his was bruised and 5 days later it still hurt and was purple- xrays showed it was broken as well as the lateral aspect of his foot. And we thought he was just being dramatic. See your doc so they can get you in a Reese shoe so it can heal properly. Good luck.

Two - four weeks. It takes some time. You might have fractured or even broken the toe, but it will heal itself dont worry. Happens all the time.

If you have damaged the nail bed of the toe,
and it goes thru different shades of blue,
green yellow, it may mean the nail needs to come off. Your new one will be great!
