it's not. well I guess if you lie to yourself and say something like I'm absolutely gorgeous today and your clearly not it's supposed to help build your self esteem... so if lying to yourself means to improve in areas or help you believe in yourself then I guess that can be healthy.

I think they meant that being reassuring to yourself, even if it is not true, is in some way a good thing. Like, you look in the mirror and tell yourself you're pretty, even if it may or may not be true.

Lying really only ends up causing problems. So don't.

Well - I wouldn't say that lying to yourself is healthy, but sometimes we are too hard on ourselves. We tend to judge ourselves as we think others might see us - and we are usually wrong. Also, some truths might be too much for us to deal with us - so we work around them.

I think it is probably not healthy really, carrying a lie around in your heart and in your head must be pretty awful.

But maybe we also protect ourselves by doing it, as well as facing up to the hard truth, is just so unbearable.

Food for thought.

Only if you do not have the capacity to get thru a moment without harming yourself-

For instance if you feel depressed you can start behaving as if you were happy and some psychologists say it actually can make you feel happier.
