Well, a lot of them were using drugs, not all of them but I don't think it was about LSD. It is about making kick @ss music that never dies.

Alice Cooper & Frank Zappa were always strongly anti-drug (Frank used to kick anybody he caught doing drugs right out of the Mother's) , Jim Morrison's writing was largely about all types of experience & not specifically about drugs or any one thing. The only member of Floyd that was big on LSD was Syd Barrett & he didn't fare too well in the end.

My all time favorite band is Rush. I also like Pink Floyd and ELP a lot from this list. Genesis is good too. I am not a big fan of Yes. I am not very familiar with King Crimson. Rush are amazing live. I have seen them approx. 20 times and they are better now than 20 years ago. I saw Floyd live only once, but not with the true line-up. They were very good too, but I can only imagine what a true Floyd show would be like. BQ = Hemispheres album by Rush.

no. absolutely not. the term psychodelic rock was coined by listeners and the music industry, it wasnt something bands geared their music towards. frank zappa is about as far from psychodelic rock as you can get. alice cooper is right behind him.
as for the doors and pink floyd, its the people who listened to them that also did acid that always call it psychodelic rock. it was because when you dropped acid, and listened to their music, it gave another height to your high by the way the music was effected by it.
a lot of people call them psychodelic rock, to me they're just some of the best bands to ever put out an album.

Frank was never about drugs. Perhaps the Doors, but not really.
Alice was more about the anger.Certainly early Pink (Syd Barrett era to about 1969 or so) but not when Gilmour made the band

Absolutely not. Some of the fans think so but that's just them trying to justify their drug use.
