My sister rang this morning to say my nephew William is to be christened on November 24th. The whole family will be there. Will is 32 and was born paralysed, blind and very brain damaged. All his contemporaries have died over the years, but thanks to my sister's unfailing love and care, he's lived this long.

However, we won't have him much longer, so this will be a celebration of his life. We are not a religious family at all, but he hears a lot of hymns in the care home where he is, his hearing is perfect, though he cannot talk, and my sister has explained to him that it will be a ceremony in his honour, and there will be singing and dancing afterwards and the whole family is coming. We have to do it at the care home as he is too ill to be moved now.

William is tremendously excited by the idea of his christening, and so are we. It won't turn any of us into christians (sorry if that is what you were hoping) but it will give us a chance to gather as a family in his honour.

The other news is that I'm making chicken livers, sweet potatoes and curly kale for supper !

Usually watch any BBC news, TV and radio. It's the best for balance. Otherwise, its Jon Stewart's Daily Show which airs nightly on More4 at 8.30pm 2030local. There's also another showing same channel around 2330---check times if interested.
