Try this good, free alternative http://www.openoffice.org/ as you have to pay for MS Office package (which has Word included).

word is not the only word processing program that has a spell check - programs like corel's Wordperfect or even Microsoft's lower end Works are more cost effective and do an equivalent job. i tell most people Word is business class software, and Works is homeowner level software - and the price reflects it....

other than going with openoffice - you're going to be forced to purchase something....

also: if this is a one time use thing, you can type it in wordpad then goto school and open it with Word - at that point spell check and format it how you like. i used to do that when i was in high school.

Word Processor has less features, go to the microsoft website to check if you can buy office word seperately but it would be better to get a package where you get the other office programs as well

how very sad for you. I had to use a typewriter, dictionary and thesaurus when doing my reports for college. But there have been many viable suggestions for a solution. I learned word processing on an Old IBM Word Mate. Wow, talk about a clunker, it had an eight inch floppy disk drive. But at the time is was state of the art. I am sure that you will author a viable report/paper irregardless of the process.

go to microsoft office website and download a trial version. the bad part about the trial version is it is NOT complete and may not have a complete spell check, but it's free and you can type your report.

Open Office, it's free and is very comparable to Microsoft Office, reads and saves the documents in the same format.
