they wear sunglasses coz they feel shame if they looses then they will feel shame from the enemy,so they were sunglasses to hide their faces!

Considering the troops are stationed in a very sunny place, I think they probably wear the sunglasses so they can SEE the enemy.

umm they are in the desert and I imagine there is quite alot of sun there. Not to mention probably alot of blowing sand.
