People from most religions (sadly even Christians), in countries where Christmas is a tradition, celebrate Christmas by removing all references to Jesus Christ.

I knew a lot of Buddhists who loved Christmas for the lights. Many of them left the pretty, colorful lights and decorations up all year because they loved the beauty of them.

There is no question of cans and can'ts.
As an individual, it is your freedom to celebrate Christmas the way you want.
And as far as a religion is concerned, it doesn't celebrate the festivals of other religions, not for divinity nor for fun.
But Ramakrishna Mission celebrates Christmas with all its purity.

I feel Christmas is for everyone. It's more than just a religious holiday. It's about sharing oneself with other. If you want to celebrate but don't agree with the meaning behind it. Do something charitable, volunteer at a soup kitchen, there are many ways to spread cheer without celebrating the religous aspect of Chrismas.

In a way yes, in a way no.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Other religions may believe in Christ, and they may believe he was a prophet sent to teach us about the afterlife. They may not be Christians, per se, but they may still believe he existed. So I think it would be perfectly okay if they celebrated his birthday.

But most other religions have their own reason to celebrate around this time of year, anyway.

No. Christmas (note the first six letters) is about the birth of THe Saviour of Humanity. It's one of a very few holidays that legitimately keep Hallmark in business.

Yes, of course they can. If you are asking if they should for fun, then consider if it is for self-indulgence, then no. Additionally, Jesus was not a prophet. He claimed to be God in the flesh. Jesus was either who He said He was, mentally ill, or something worse. But whoever He was, He was not a prophet, nor just a good teacher.

The commercial aspects - trees, gifts, egg nog, lights - sure.

The religious aspects - maybe not. Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and Sikhs would feel funny at Midnight Mass.
