Passport regulations vary country to country. I think the airlines probably know better what passport control is requiring at airports in other countries. Renew your passport...you are going to have to do it anyway if you plan to do any traveling after the 5 months are up.

it is the policy of the airline to have 6 months validity of the passport as your protection also. an immigration officer also are requiring traveller to have a passport at least 6 months valid.

If it's the airline that says you must have 6 months and it's the airline that decides whether you get on their aeroplane or not, I wouldn't risk it!

Renew the passport,take your ticket and they can do as fast as necessary!
