Melbourne is COOL. However Sydney is nice too, especially the opera house and sydney bridge

I live in Sydney and I really enjoy it... Melbourne has its good points as well... It all depends on what you are looking for... Cheaper housing? Education? Beautiful City? Nicer Tourism spots?
Well Sydney rates 2 out of those 4... Education is great as long as you are willing to fork out $10K a year for a good school the public system is fine... you just have to pic the right school and for tourism spots... Sydney wins hands down...
Melbourne also rates 2 out of the 4... You can definitely get a nice bigger house in a nicer suburb then what you can in Sydney... and the City is a lot nicer than Sydney... Sydney is starting to look a little run down and needs a sprucing up...
Spend two weeks and both and judge for yourself... we are all a little bias on here.

I have been to Sydney and never to Melbourne, so I like Sydney better. This was back in 1962.

I have to say I think that Sydney has more for the tourist but I think Melbourne is a better place to live

Sydney is great
the harbour is so lovely & pretty
getting From A to B is so easy in Sydney the transport is good
But they say Melbourne is great too
so go see both !!

Melbourne does it for me alot better then Sydney.

I agree with Robert A.
Sydney has a lot for the visitor.
But Melbourne has a number of things also. In particular, I liked the Penguin Parade on Philip Island.
