A telescope that don't see very far

2006-10-22 03:05:16 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

There are a lot of bad telescopes on the market that cost even more than fifty dollars. A lot of people buy them, use them once or twice, and never use them again. Why? Because it is simply no fun trying to use a poor quality telescope.

I'd suggest finding something else to spend fifty dollars on. If you really are interested in astronomy, then for $100 to $150 you can get a good pair of 7x50mm binoculars.

Good luck!

Your chances of finding a decent telescope at that price are pretty slim. Halfway decent beginner's telescopes start at around $100. Check out http://www.telescope.com for some examples.

If there's an astronomy club in your town, you may find someone there who has a used scope they'd be willing to sell for $50. Or they may have loaner scopes available. Go to http://skytonight.com/community/organizations to search for a club in your area.

Lacking that, I'd suggest you either wait until you can save more money, or buy a pair of binoculars. For astronomy, you want big front lenses - at least 40mm; 50mm is better. And don't get anything with strong red or yellow coatings. Those coatings are for daylight but will cut down on the amount of light you get at night.

I would suggest getting a good pair of 10x50 binoculars instead.
A fifty dollar telescope will not be very good quality and will be hard to use. Try the binocs first and then upgrade later.

Check with Walmart. They have telescopes at a good price. May get a better quality telescope for a better price if you search on Ebay for a used one. Good luck and learn all you can about quality verses quanity. The more power doesn't mean you can use it. some times less power with quality gives a more satifying results.
