If you're a meat eater:
Whenever I get to Austin I make sure I hit a good barbecue place. The Salt Lick is about a half hour west of town, but well worth the drive. The County Line and Rudy's are pretty good too. Dang, now that's got me salivating.

I would suggest
The state Capitol
The lake Travis, even if you don't get to go in go to this very famous restaurant called OASIS. it gives you a good view of the sunset over the lake and offres a great cuisine
Zilker park - they have a botonical garden which is beautiful, but the park is good for a stroll, although not recommended in winter.
sixth street - awesome clubs and awesome crowd
a visit to downtown, try to grab some dining experience there, as Austin has some of the best restaurants located in downtown. to name a few
Claypit - Indian
Marakeesh- med food
Thai passion - thai food
Driskill - though a little expensive, very good steaks
Jazz - cajun
visit this website www.austin360.com. it might help
