Itchy ear canals are caused by infection from an external source. You probably have inserted Q-tibs or someother object. If you have the habit of cleaning your ear after a shower, you should only clean your finna. (external part) with a clean towel. The inner parts are susceptible to infection.
Actually, your little finger is the worst. The infection from under the finger nails (however clean it may be), travels to the fluid in your ear drum. Those tiny little buggers from your finger nails lodges inside to cause all the havoc.
Your doc will prescribe an ear drops that is antibiotic.
If you just let the itch continue, it can cause biliousness and also vertigo. This is even worse because it takes about 3 or 4 months to get better. You can't be functional, even driving a car is a chore. You will feel as if the world around you is collapsing on you. The corners of the room feel like floating. You lose balance.

I agree with the others it is allergies to a degree. You may also be dry or not that you are a unhygienic person, but you may have a waxy build up deep in the inner canal. You can flush this out by filling the ear canal with warm mineral oil. Please be careful the oil is warm and not hot. (Do one canal at a time). It works by softening therefore loosening any debris. After it's been in the ear for a few minutes tilt your head and let the liquid drain out. It's best to have a towel handy to catch the any liquid.

This happened to me last year...you won't believe the answer. When we have too much candida, a yeast, in our guts (caused by antibiotics, inproper eating) it can cause other problems like this or much worse.
Try doing away with sugar, which candida feeds on mainly, and eat lots of yogurt. If it improves a bit, you should get yourself some probiotics at the store to really rid yourself of this. The longer it goes on, the worse the symptoms become. I won't get into what else becomes itchy. Ick.

It comes from allergies, believe it or not. Try a Benadryl...I swear it will stop the itching.
