I had the long and disappointed silences when I was growing up.You could almost feel the heat coming off my mom, and I hated having to walk around on eggshells until she got it all sorted out in her mind. I would have preferred the yelling. I mean, I knew I had screwed up. Why not do the yelling, tune it out, get it over with, and get on with life?

I'd prefer the silent treatment. But my parents worked very hard when I was young and I rarely saw them anyway. So them not speaking to me was not a big deal.
I also lived in a flat from the age of 13 in my parents backyard. So yet again I was independent from a young age.
I feel that I am very lucky to have had my parents close enough if I needed them. But far enough away that I could live my own life.
And if I did get the silent treatment. I guess it was easy cause I could go out to my flat and have no reason to see my parents for a few days anyway.
Also my brother and sister had their own flats across and next to mine....so I had neighbours.

At least the "Yelling" is some form of communication, I would do without the Silent Treatment

Yelling definitely, it's easier to get over it than silent treatment or being told that they are disappointed with you.

Me, too. I would rather them yell at me and get it over with than them give me the disappointed silent treatment. that bothers me lol. at least the yelling gets over with quicker.

i prefer the yelling too. at least i could yell back. lolz. also, the conflict would most likely be resolved quickly. occassionaly, i get the silent treatment... gosh.. days and days of torture! and in the end, i'll always end up crying and saying that i'm sorry..

My mom and I used to do the silent thing. I would have preferred she yell at me, at least that way I'd know what she was upset about and we could resolve it.
