My husband had done his morning streatch last week, leaning forward stretching out his left leg. Next day, he noticed back of his leg from knee down felt hard and painful. He since then has been limping, and the pain has not subsided and gotten worse. I noticed a bruise the size of a quarter behind the knee a couple days ago, and since then, the whole back calf has turned yellow. We were trying to treat it as a pulled muscle putting heat and wraps on it at home. I am in transition of jobs and our insurance has lapsed on my part, so we were right in the middle of getting back on my husbands insurance. NOW, this has happened, and we are fearing the worse....does anyone have any clue what might be wrong?? I am ready to take him to the E.R., and without our insurance in place, that will cost us big bucks, let alone what treatment / surgery he might need,, . HELP?????

Don't take medical advice for this from anyone except a health care professional. It could be very harmful. Any injury should be evaluated by medical people. You could go to webmd.com , to a free clinic, or an urgent care center which is less expensive than an ER and quicker. Some online medical advice sites provide an M.D. to answer medical questions. This injury could be anything, from a torn ligament, stretched tendon, blood clot or tear in the cartilage. It could be benign or serious, don't take chances. But I would surely stay off it.

Really needs to be seen by a docor if there is any pain still there. Just in case there might be a blood clot. Not likely but not worth the risk. Yellow usually is indicadive of a bruise. Blood clot would be very painful especially when pressed on.

Sounds like he might get really bad charlie horses in his legs. That is something runners get a lot. Tell him to add more potassium rich foods to his diet. Banana and Orange juice are full of potassium.

Charlie Horse is when the muscles knot up on their own. Used to happen to me at night while half asleep. Hurt like a demon and sometimes actually leave a bruise.

It could be one of many knee injuries. Generally that amount of internal blood loss, which caused the bruise is not a good sign. Going to the doctor is a must. The last thing you need is a clot to move.

stop panic not, its sounds from your description that he has torn a muscle ligament, if it has turned yellow, that could indicate that the seepage of blood is disapating, and hes on the mend, keep your eye on it for any increase in the area of bruising ,this is not a good sign, it will be sore for a few days ,deep in the muscle, rest and not exersise strenuosly, for a week to ten days if yellowing is still there after then you need to get it sorted out from a medic.LF

I'm not a doctor, but I remember in 1st aid class you do NOT want to apply heat, usually cold packs, as heat tends to make bleeding worse, and bruises are internal bleeding, or a minor hemmorrage. I'd use ice pack or cold if I were you. to reduce the swelling, but above all get a Dr's advice.

I was once purchasing a few jewellery at Mervyn's and the jewelry at the rack mentioned "wont tarnish" however one of the most jewelry was once tinged with yellow (silver ones). I requested the revenue woman why and he or she mentioned it is been sitting too lengthy at the shelf and had oxidized from the air. She mentioned to avert this hold jewlery in zip lock sandwich baggage whilst no longer in use.

I agree with others' comments that you should NOT take medical advice from any of us here, we're not experts, and even if we were we haven't seen your husband.

To get professional medical advice, use a phone book or the internet to find a free, cheap, or pay-what-you-can clinic in a city near you.

This excact thing happened to my arm a few years ago.It just started hurting like crazy, and turned yellow.I hadn`t done a thing to hurt it,so I didn`t know what was going on.I finally went to the ER and they just sent me home for it to heal on it`s on.I suggest just giving it a little more time, take pain pills as needed, and see if it goes away soon.It will if it`s what I had.
