Work the scales with Finger picking.
Especially Pentonic and Dorian.
Classical Finger pinking will also increase your precision and notes per second for the Riffs in the late sets 8^)

Practise of course, but it helps to know a little on theory (like what notes work(sound good together) within a mode, what scale to use). And finger technique once you get the notes you want to use figured out, how fast or any tricky moves you'll need. Always remember this, 95% of the people listening don't know anything about music but if it sounds good they'll tell you, so as long as it sounds ok your fine. My favorite mode for soloing is Locrain, very evil and dark sounding but that's not for everyone, try like mixo-lydian for pop/rock stuff.

practice for 6 hours a day straight....for years...that's how Slash, Carlos Santana, Yngwie, Stevie Vai, and Jonny Lang got the way they are now.
