hi emily....it depends on the fathers religion....if he is a marathi... the child is called a marathi....so on n so forth....n marathi becomes his mother tongue.....but please dont ask me if the fathers language becomes a childs mother tongue then y is it called a mother tongue cuz i dont think ne1 wud know

I think this should be a joint effort discussing it together as a couple. I wouldn't really put too much thought in the later question "what do we call the children, Bengali or Marathi or simply INDIAN?" because it really does not matter in the grand scheme of things. The identity of the children should be both Bengali and Marathi (which, to make things easier would technically be Indian). My parents are from different parts of the world (South American/European) and I define myself as such, taking pride in both countries and their cultures.
