If $1240 is the net income. The percentage of the money he spends on food, his car, rent and savings will be a fraction of the net income. Therefore the amount of money spent on:

Food will be $150/$1240
Car will be $244/$1240
Rent will be $300/$1240
Savings will be $50/$1240

To convert a fraction into a percentage you must multiply it by 100. So:
Food: 150/1240 x 100 = 12.1%
Car: 244/1240 x 100 = 19.7%
Rent: 300/1240 x 100 = 24.2%
Savings: 50/1240 = 4.0%

The Remaining percentage of the money is: 40%
This is the money that is spent on none of the above things

Add all expenses
150 +244 + 300 + 50= 744

Then divide by the original wage and multiply by hundred to find the percentage expenditure.
(744/1240) x 100 = 60%

Therefore he does not spend 40% of his pay and spends 60%

Easy -
1240 = 100%
therefore divide by 100 to give 1%
= 12.4
Now you know this you just divide any number by 12.4 (1%) and this will give you the percentage = how many 1%'s go into that number .....
If you need a total percentage that equals spending, then add all the spends up together and divide by 12.4 ....
