Did anybody have a 'carom board?'
You could play about sixty games
on it. Of course, all we ever learned
was checkers!
I just bought my granddaughters
a game of 'jacks' and they are now
large, colored, plastic things,
that are too big to pick up and
catch the ball in the same hand!
Yes, those were the days, my friend!
It is like everything in this world,
if the parents do not teach it to
the children, the children do
not know it.

WHAT ABOUT TIPPIT, peggy, pitch and toss, knock a door,
hopscotch,in and out, skipping with a rope that went from one end of the street width, one end tied to a lamp post, the record was thirty eight kids all jumping in unison, boys and girls a few mothers and fathers on thier way home from work. LF
PS I nearly forgot the hoola hoop.

Kick the Can - a rough and tumble version of hide and seek played at dusk. The goal was a can you kicked. This might be a midwest (u.s.) only game.
My girlfriend and I played all sorts of card games, monopoly (I don't remember finishing many games -- mostly ended with the board pieces on the floor!) we also played Risk, Life and so many others.
We put on plays because it involved all age groups.
We also played Red Rover and jacks, and Chinese jump roap.

Marbles, spinning tops, how long can you make a Mintie wrapper, knuckle-jacks (with sheep knuckles), cowboys and Indians, darts, "keepin's off" (all against everyone, with a tennis ball, until the school bell rang), cats cradle, wrestling, no blinking, dictionary (guess the meaning), encyclopaedia (a bit elitist!), sing a song (stumble and lose), hop-scotch, racing sleds on grass slopes, racing billy-carts down hills, peg-leg (who stands longest on one), stilt races (on tin cans or on sticks), racing underwater furthest or fastest, quoits, arm-wrestling, shooting rubber band off finger tips or home-made "rubber-guns" using bands cut from bike tyres, bike-riding tricks, "bombing" with a periscope and dart, should I go on? Board games Monopoly, chequers, snakes and ladders. Child of 30's and war.
