You can but is requires you replaceing the hard drive and lots of other complicated steps and unless you are VERY computer savy it would be a waste of time to try. (and really expensive)
Eventually the USB port will be able to be used to accomplish that just not yet.
The best thing to do is buy a DVDR (dvd recorder/player) and attach it to your dvr. You can record to disc that way. That's what I do and I work for satellite tv so I know the process. Keep in mind that if you do buy a DVDR they are all equipped with progressive scan so, unless the dvd player is pro-scan the disc will not be playable and that includes on your pc too.

you need to get a TV Tuner card w/ video capture software. you can go to tigerdirect.com to order that for a decent price. Once you have installed that in your computer, you will hook your DVR up, play your event of choice, and start your computer recording. Than you can burn the video you captured to disc. I would actually recommend skipping the whole copying to computer part, and get an external DVD burner w/ RCA inputs. this will allow you to hook your DVR up to it, and copy directly to DVD. then you can play it back on your computer if you like.
