In the form of poetry, Satire is like witty language used to convey insults or scorn.
In visual art, it's like when you draw a funny picture to insult a famous person. Have you seen the cartoons that come in your local daily newspaper every day? they are satire.

Satire is derived from the last name of French existentialist author Jean Paul Satre (1905 - 1980) who wrote witty and sardonic stories. In art, satire would include political cartoons as well as paintings, pottery and sculpture. Painter Grant ("American Gothic") Wood is said to have executed "Daughters of Revolution" as satire. Sorry art has to be such a drag for you. The history of art will reveal a lot about what you like and what you can learn to appreicate in art....which includes design, like cars, footgear and jackets.

Hogarth is a lot more accessible (IMO) than Daumier and there is lots of info out there on political cartoonists, such as Nash and Trudeau that might help. Also check out artists such as Duchamp, Oldenburg and Koons for modern references.
