Hey peeps,

Hope one or two of you could shed some light on this for me. My male friend has an embarrasing problem of wetting the bed when he has a few too many drinks. Can anyone help with why this happens.

It happens to a lot more people than you'd think, especially after drinking alcohol. Chances are he has a smaller than average bladder and/or is an unusually sound sleeper after he drinks. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning is causes the body to produce urine faster than normal, and it also causes people to sleep really soundly. If the drinks exceed the holding capacity of his bladder, and he's too far out of it to feel the need to urinate, then there's no place else for it to go except to come out in the bed.

Assuming you're sleeping with him when this happens, try setting an alarm clock for *yourself* to wake up anbout an hour of hour and a half after he goes to sleep on nights where he has a lot to drink. He'll probably be too far out of it to hear the alarm, but you can get up and then get him up -- splash cold water on his face if you have to -- and then take him to the bathroom, and make sure he gets up and goes whether he thinks he has to or not. Most of the urine during the night is produced during the first couple of hours of sleep, so if you get him to go at that point, unless he has a really tiny bladder, he should be OK for the rest of the night. It'll be a minor inconvenience for you to get him up, but better than getting peed on and having to wash the bed in the morning!

Hope this is helpful... I'm a guy and unfortunately have experienced the same problem... I'm sure it's really frustrating for him, but it's probably going to keep happening as long as he keeps having a lot to drink, because his bladder most likely just isn't strong enough to cope with a lot of drinks at night. You're welcome to email me if I can offer you any other info or answers from my own experience, but I don't really know of another remedy for this.

It happens, just try to help him go to the bathroom before he goes to bed after drinking and maybe set an alarm for a couple of hours after going to bed and help him get up and go to the bathroom, it is better to lose a little sleep then to have a wet bed.

Can be a few things:- mixing medication and booze, mixing alcoholic drinks, but basicaly he probably drinks too much on a bender. He must be made to pee before going to bed, the alarm is a good suggestion,He's not the only one doing it loads of blokes do it, i was terrible for doing it in my mid 20's, but i was hard drinking and mixing drugs (prescribed)

Sounds like a weak bladder and possibly a drinking problem. In either case consulting a physician sounds like the best place to
begin the quest for dry land.

The reason for bed wetting is too much water in the bladder. I suggest to your friend to grind fresh cocoanut kernel squeeze the water and drink.

Well, he should not be having 'a few too many drinks', I'd say. Not good for male stamina either.
