I saw a largeish bird in my garden this morning, digging in one of my pots for worms or something. It looked like a pigeon and yet not quite like a pigeon: I think it was a bit larger. It was a light muddy brown colour, with a "collar" which I think was white, and other markings on its head. It also had some markings on its tail, the most noticeable of which was a bright blue flash. Was it a pigeon, or something else?

Hello everyone - sorry it flew off before I could get a picture. I live in East Anglia, England, between Felixstowe and Colchester.

I am not too sure, the description could fit any number of birds and I am not familiar with birds in England. I did however find this site that has pictures of birds in England from a-z so you may be able to look through the pics and identify the bird you saw... http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/a/index.asp

Hope this helps!

Doesn't sound familiar, try looking it up in the Audubon Society's web site.
