i have a amd athlon 3200+ with 1gb ram and i have just bought a nvidia geforce 6200(compatible with agp x4/x8) and it plays anything you throw at it
i had a geforce 4 mmx before this and the main problem with this ,it would only do t+ l (transform and lighting) and becuse todays games require what they call pixel and shader model i ran into problems with games like doom3 and quake 4
the geforce 6200 (128mb) costs £38 and has pixel and shader model 3.0,this is the highest pixel and shader model you can get(the others being 1.0 , 1.1 , 2.0) and you may say to yourself "why is it so cheap" well the answer to that si to do with clock and memory speeds, the ones in this card are lower than the speeds in the 6600,s and the 7800,s,but the geforce 6200 will still produce some good frame rates, ecspecially with your processor and system ram
so your best bet would be get a asus nvidia geforce n6200,this would blow your old geforce out of the agp slot ,and as your old card is pretty slow compared you will see a markd improvement
god luck

I recommend you stick with the GEForce and go for one of the 128mb models. I went for an ATI radeon and it doesnt come up to scratch sometimes despite it being a PCI express one and having a fast processor behind it, you get slowdown on several games. You can pick up a 128mb card off ebay for around £60 or less. You say you dont want to waste money on an expensive card but do you realise that the more memory the card has the less strain will be on your processor because the graphics card will take it instead and can hold more info at one time meaning your processor can rest more.

I have a GEForce2 MX400 with 64 MB of memory. It's more than enough for anything you want to do with it!! Don't waste your money. And Graphic cards are somewhat independent of the CPU type, i.e you could have the same card on a on PIII or PII CPU.

Ya, make certain you get a clean comp, you will see a extensive distinction in universal overall performance despite the fact that in case you get the foremost much less high priced pc on the industry. do in elementary words you self a go with and by no skill GET AN EMACHINES pc decrease lower back. they're extraordinarily plenty the worst variety obtainable. i could advise HP. and don't get a small one like a slimline or some concern, you will adventure sorry approximately it faster or later as quickly as you prefer to augment.

I would have to recommend GeForce 6600 GT or GeForce 7600 GT.
But I think, the best will be GeForce 6600 GT since the bottleneck syndrome wont be too noticeable.
By observing your system, I think you should upgrade your processor a little bit. Maybe to 2.4 GHz system.

This would be a good videocard. It's faster than a 6600gt and a little slower than the 7600gt. But in my opinion would be a better match to your system because a 7600gt would be a bit bottlenecked.
And as long as your motherboard is atleast AGP4x it should work just fine.
