Book selling is not a "small" home based business. Books take space. You will eventually need storage space, and unless your garage is available, you'll need to rent space somewhere.

But other than that, there are a couple of sites where you can get started and test the waters. Try Amazon and eBay. You'll probably do better at Amazon, but eBay is generally better for rare and hard-to-find books.

If you are looking to sell locally, try Craig's List. I suggest that you use these venues starting out, because you can build your client list that way. Everyone who buys from you goes on your "list" of contacts. When the list reaches 1000 or more, you can switch to a website of your own and simply email your list every couple of weeks with your bargains, new arrivals, etc. Meanwhile, you can still email the contacts you have with your eBay bargains, etc.

The most important thing for you to do is BUILD YOUR LIST! Without it, you are throwing money away on marketing and advertising that would be totally unnecessary if you had your list.

One other thing: If you sell on eBay you will need a PayPal account. Too many buyers won't purchase any other way. But don't sell anything high priced (over $20 or so) via PP. They have been known to lock accounts for virtually no reason, and they can keep your money for 6 months legally. Get a merchant account as soon as possible. Good luck!

As an entrepreuner, I have dabbled in a lot of Business, but on the spur of doing small online businesses, I found E-bay highly lucrative. I used the attic to store my stock, sold through an e-bay shop, and paid into my bank account.

Because of the relatively low volume of stock I was turning over, I did not make enough to live off on its own, but since I had other business ventures to make money, profit was not my goal, I was more orientated by just the selling. It was fun, but it takes time sometimes.

There was something in my local paper the other day, looking for people with a van/reasonably big car and a storage unit to go around selling discount books. It specifically said in the ad that they didn't want any money up front, which was a bit different. I think the weblink was www.index-books.com, but unfortunately I've thrown the paper away.

I have made decent money selling books from home. Do your homework. Go on ebay and research what sells well, what doesn't. Stay away from paperback novels, unless they're very old. Stay away from book club hardcover editions. Do a web search on bookselling. Lean about the media rate postage requirements.

One of my friends does this . She uses amazon. You need to go to lots and lots of book fairs/ shops and find books for cheap . Find non fiction books because they sell for lot higher and find what books are specialist ones and make sure you get good packaging . Once you get some sent out and get good reviews you will get more sales. Get buissness cards as well and stick them in your packagaes then people may look you up later. A website maybe useful aswell/

My friend bought a book for £3 and sold it for £ 80 you just have to know which ones to get. Hope you do well.
