because of the working hours it's got nothing to do with being a pervert, it's like the fact that their are more female psychiatrists (sp?) as the working hours are kinder to females who have a family

Firstly there are more male doctors than female anyway. We have come a long way in the last hundred years, but the medical profession is still dominated by men.
From my own experiences female doctors do not like dealing with "women's problems" if you'll excuse the expression.
Female doctors often don't like being reminded they also face the risks of cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer etc.
They treat a patient for breast cancer and think "that could so easily be me".
Also many women tend to enter fields such as paediatrics, radiology and general practice. These fields are more "family friendly". Radiology and general practice in paticular (these tend to be monday to friday, 9 to 5 jobs).

LMAO......thats a really good question.....I guess its every little boys dream to have a job where you stare and poke at womens bits all day long.........there should be more women in this field though....and I wonder why there aren't?! I'm sure most women would feel comfortable with a woman gynaecologist, I know when I had my children I was very shy about having a man around such personal parts.......then again I wonder why there are no mail "Midwives" and if there were ....would they be called "Midhusbands". Hey.......this is the millenium after all......stranger things have happened........x

Well, I dunno. I've actually thought about that question a few times. I came to the conclusion that probably a lot of them go into the field because of a relitive's experience, like a mother or sister, etc. For instance, maybe some guys sister was raped when they were both young and that particular type of doctor helps women who have had such an experience. Because I doubt seriously that they got the whim to study the vaginas of women who most likely have STDs and God-knows-what-else just because they're creepy old men. And, besides that, the men gynas that I've had have always been very... hm... business like? and I've never felt like they were just in it for a perverted reason.

Generally men who specilaise in this are interested in babies and children. I think may men who take up this wish they could be mothers and as they can't they want to help women with pregnancy, child birth and sexual health in general.
I don't think they do it for sexual reasons because as wonderful as it is to look at a beautiful healthy vagina the truth of the matter is that a gyno has to look at many vaginal infections and injuries which are far from pretty.

There isn't really a clear cut answer for this. They Just go to college and they do it. You might be thinking they do it for perverted reasons but you have to think about how many messed up gross things they have to see...For every 1 good thing they might see..they have to go through tons of Old, Gross, STD'd up stuff....so its not a glorious job. Trust me I work in an Emergency room I have seen it all...I don't envy them at all. But if you feel uncomfortable with a male Gyno, then you can always switch.

Money. And Becky, I totally disagree with you. Most male doctors don't really understand about PMS as they've never felt it themselves; I've had many tell me "it's all in your head, there's nothing there to hurt." Yeah right. I suggest all male gynaes to get HRT and have a couple of periods before they lay down the law on that one.

its what their rich daddy sent them to school to learn. hmmm? i imagin the good lookers are easy to deal with, but like the dr. said, it ain't always pretty. you could lose sleep at nite seeing some of the actual nasty problems out there. but, it could be a good way to get dates, lol......
