Newsgroups will possibly be your best bet. You can search and then you can request that someone post it also. A newsreader (eg. Outlook Express) is OK - but a newsgroup service that offers a Web interface with powerful cross-group searching can be very effective. Something like easynews.com is useful.

Not sure. At one point they were making a giant database of all old shows... unsure what happened to that!!! Some of the bigger TV shows might be available on Bit Torrent. There are also some sites on the internet which try and sell you coppies of old show converted from VHS (straight from TV) to DVD format - but the quality is usually poor!
