the cars worth 16k+ butt do i take responsibilty for the mechanical side of the repair....its worrying

Its hard to say without knowing more detail marcyboy.
Is it your car or an insurance repair?
Whats the extent of mechanical damage?
A couple of broken engine mounts aren't always a problem,or have the broke because the chassis legs have gone way over?
Is the sump smashed or any other mechanical components?

yes you do, insure yourself by getting more money to cover it.
