Rhodes is an excellent destination. You may either rent a car or use the local bus.
The maximum distance on the island is about 60 km , however it is more convenient to have a car in order to make your own choices.
For what concerns organised tours you may either contact the large tour operators such as TUI etc, or contact a Rhodian travel agency (I know "Pallas Travel" at Rhodes city) which organize several nice daily trips and they have conn ections for accomodation etc. Hotel ''Matina appartments'' at Pefkoi is ''Pallas Travel'' property and is located next to the beach (I have stayed there)
Lindos is beautiful, the houses are made according to the local architecture, no cars are allowed in the center of Lindos, for food I propose restaurant ''Mavrikos'' (excellent food, local cuisine) located at the square just in the entrance of Lindos. It has very nice bars with beautiful music and excellent night view (even during day they use the terraces of the buildings).
Further to Lindos at Rhodes you may visit Filerimos, Kallithea's baths, the old town at Mandraki as well as the ''Palati ton Ippoton'', Rodini, Embona village (for nice food and wine) as well as lot of other places (it depends on your days).
I have lived there for 5 years.
Should you decide to go just contact me specifying your interests and I can propose further places to visit at Rhodes.
For Athens it is very short a one day trip! There are many places to visit depending on your interests.
Have a nice trip!

One day tour for Athens is not much, but better than nothing.
Regarding Rhodes, once you get there, you can ask the concierge at your hotel for organised tours; I'm sure they will propose several things otherwise you can always rent a car (I can suggest Sixt Rent-A-Car) provided you have the child with you; it is better because you are your own boss.
Of course you can always use public transportation or hire a taxi (it is not expensive in Greece).
Lindos is really worth a visit, if you like ancient ruines and are a fun of ancient history.
The only place you can visit walking is the medieval town of Rhodos, but a suggest that you have a baby carriage for the child and if you visit during summer, lots of fresh water.

Hae fun!

i have spent 2 winters in Greece (residing aboard my yacht). The Ionian is moist (VERY moist) and somewhat chilly (we had temperatures close to freezing for some weeks in Corfu in 2005). Crete replaced into large very last wintry climate notwithstanding, little or no rain and temperatures round 15 deg (Celsius) or so. We were swimming on New Years Day as an get mutually. in case you would possibly want to flow in December i might want to seem heavily at Crete. Do bear in mind notwithstanding that in the smaller places very nearly each and every of the bars and tavernas will be closed, so head for a significantly better position. Even then the exterior tavernas will be in a number of of situations be closed. Crete is a significant island (the biggest of the Greek islands) with plenty to work out, notwithstanding maximum touristy places (like the Samaria Gorge) will be closed. vehicle employ will oftentimes be more low priced in the wintry climate notwithstanding. anyplace you flow in Greece in December you'll see the country because the locals stay it, particularly than because the travelers like it!
