Its not a cure but hold a cool face cloth on your eyes and keep them closed no matter how much they itch.

Good Luck !!!

a book can't cure eczema.
info in the book might help you but that info is probably found elsewhere.

best advice: look to testimonials from others that have your same condition, see what works and doesn't work. Share knowledge.

What worked for our child, and in a big way, was a British made product, Salcura Dermaspray Gentle. it's now available from a USA distributor.. or get it over the counter at a British Chemist . There's some people with hand eczema that cleared up after using salcura. Look for the testimonials on line.

Sounds like classic Pink Eye (conjunctivitis). I get this regularly from allergies. Most of the above suggestions will only aggravate your condition above. Your symptoms are mild now, but will get worse in a few days and then feel like there is glass inside your eyelids.
You can also try a boric acid eye wash which you can buy OTC at the store. It helps a lot, if you treat early.

The only thing I have found to help me are warm compress, sunglasses, and a trip to the Dr. for prescription eye drops.

It sounds like you may have conjunctivitis. It's very contageous, so be careful with family and friends. There's an eye drop available from pharmacists that has a chemical in it that will get rid of it, and it's available without a prescription. Sorry I can't remember what it's called. If in doubt visit an optician or your GP

If you prefer to deal with this naturally, then Euphrasia is a great homeopathic remedy for itchy eyes, I've been using it for years to help with allergy eyes.
Good luck

Wash splash some cold water into them, use Visine or another eyedrop for itchy, red eyes and wash your hands thoroughly in case you are allergic to something you may have touched (cat fur etc)
Take a cold facewasher and lie down for 2 mins with the cold cloth draped over your eyes.

this does the trick for me!

Try rinsing your eyes with milk. Place the milk in egg cups, this will make it easier to rinse your eyes. It really does help to relieve the itchiness.
