I worked on a 327ci Chevy with a mechanical fuel pump. We had troubles dialling in the carb. When you stood on it it would bog and then let go. We adjusted everything on the carb with little results. The fuel pump was brand new and it was faulty. Remember you need pressure and flow which are two different things. We had proper fuel line pressure (with the gauge and regulator) but not enough flow. Make sure you have both!! Good luck!!

all fuel pumps have spec pressure , you need that info , then can get a pressure gauge or they can hook into your diag connector on your car or truck with testing tool at a repair shop and see the pressure , if it's a older car or truck you will need just pressure gauge and hook it up to the pump and crank over the engine, check hoses to make sure there not any leaks, make sure there is fuel in tank :) if it's elec check for power &ground at pump--- check fuses also

unhook the fuel line put that sucker in a bottle and start her up see how much of a flow you have then take it from there this is the poor mans test but it will give you an idea as to how much pump pressure you have
