A. Germany was despised and forced to pay reparations, but I don't recally any harsh feeling against Russia because of its participation in WWI. Harsh feelings against Russia were more an aftershock of the Russian Revolution and the rise of Communism (and the threat of that idea to the wealthy capitalists in the west) than of it's involvement in WWI.
B. The Battle of Ypres alone left more than half a million dead. Military casualties alone were in the tens of millions. If we include civilian casualties, more. And what if we included the influenza pandemic, generally attributed to battlefield conditions? Current estimates say that, if we included rural third world areas around the world (where deaths had been significantly underestimated and underreported), worldwide influenza deaths from the 1918 pandemic may have reached 100 million!
C. Survivors were Gertrude Stein's 'Lost Generation' of the 20s. Depression in the U.S. and Europe during the 20s, and especially after the 29 crash (the brief boom of the early 20s was actually more a symptom of widespread economic instability than anything else) left many people envying the dead. So no, they didn't feel fortunate.
D. Finland was part of Russia before WWI, but afterwards became independent.
