The best you can buy for a for a home owner is a Powermatic. It has the best guides on the market for that price range. As important as the bandsaw is buying quality blades matched to the thickness of lumber you intend to cut.

I've never been as happy with Grizzley for a lower priced saw because of the guides but they could be changed if you wanted to go to the trouble.

Look around at Machine suppliers ( Axminster.co.uk - Machinemart.co.uk etc) for prices then go on Ebay and save yourself enough to buy some more timber, but only purchase if the seller has good feedback. I buy most of my workshop tools this way.

Size matters.
Cutting bowl blanks needs a saw with a deep throat & good height.
On bright side , it will not need to be too sophisticated.
Thought of buying a used one from a meat cutter?
Plenty big for cutting sides of beef & you should be able to get
suitable woodcutting blades.

Check companies going out of business or auctions . I'm not familiar with your monitary scale of pounds vs. amer. dollars
but., you may be able to get one at one of those places from $100 and up .
As for the ones to stay away from , I would think a non named brand or one that's hard to find parts for .

You might look around to see if you guys have something similar to Grizzly. I've bought a few of their offerings. Not top-of-the-line, but certainly good enough for what I do.

You can also check craigslist for used ones. Links below.

I would have thought a chainsaw would have been a better choice.
