Okay, first of all, if you are not sure how to format a hard drive, DON'T! Formatting will delete all data on your hard drive, including your OS (Windows).
Suggestions:
- Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX. That can be obtained at Microsoft's web site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a9b6820-bfbb-4799-9908-d418cdeac197&DisplayLang=en
Click "Validate", then download the file. When you launch it, it should ask for a temp directory to "unpack" the files. Try C:\temp
after it is done, go to the folder "C:\temp" and choose the file named "setup".

- You may need more RAM. Nowadays you can get away with 512MB, but at least 1GB is recommended for games or any major software.

- You may have a graphics card that is incompatable with the game, or the driver is outdated. Go to the website for the brand of graphics card, and download the most recent drivers.

- Also, you could have another program running at the same time that interferes with the program you are trying to run. Start your computer fresh, and end any tasks that are not needed.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Get into your settings by using the f keys as you boot up your system....The f key that gets you in is different on each manufacturer but if you continue to reboot tapping one f key while you are rebooting until you find the right one...you should make your way into settings pretty easily. Do a system restore...a destructive one that will return the computer to factory condition. Before you do this ...save anything you might want of your files to a jump drive or another hardrive because you will lose it all.
After you restore to factory settings...go to windows update and download all the critical updates and you're ready use it again .

EGADS don't do a reformat until you check out other possibilities!! make sure you have enough ram also make sure that you are on something other than DIAL up also look at how much disk space you have and what is running in the back ground of your computer ?? These are things I would look at first
