I will be away on holiday for 5 weeks this xmas & new year and I can't trust anyone to go into my house and feed my fish. The longest I've left my fish without any food is 10 days and they survived.

In one tank I have 3 fancy goldfish (about 2.5 inches long) & 2 tropical fish (about 2cm long)

In another tank I have 6 common goldfish (about 2.5 inches long)

What is the best way to feed my fish while I am away? Are those automatic feeding machines any good?

Get a feeding block or vacation feeder,, but I have not heard of one that lasts 5 weeks

If they go without food you wil have dead fish, as they will starve to death.. not cool!

Call a pet shop

Wont you worry though and what about fire leaving stuff plugged in or the auto feed and the power goes out?? hmm?

Here is an idea
You cant trust anyone to come in
How bout taking your fish to them???

anyone? If not just about ANY elementary school or middle school classroom would GLADLY fish sit for you.. call your local schools and ask Id bet there is a class or 2 that would fish sit while you are away.. then they get fed and you dont have to worry and the kids get to take care of them

Good Luck

I dont recommend leaving fish for that long.
Too much can go wrng.. water problems and so on

Also water evaporates... 5 weeks????

Good L uck

Don't use those feeding blocks, they mess with the water params and you can come home to tanks full of dead fish. 5 weeks is a long time to leave them and not even have 1 water change done but I guess if they are feed sparingly it could be fine. If you can't get anyone then go with the automatic feeders but test it out for at least a week before you go to make sure it's not broken or doesn't feed too much.

Five weeks is a long time. I would have someone check on them at least once a week if you can.

Those machines work well. We use them at work where we have three large tanks.
Enjoy you holiday!

or a feeding block, which is just a block of food that the fish can nibble on when they please.
