Not sure where you from but Liberal in the US means something different from the UK. US appears to have a right wing part, the republicans, and a not so right wing party, the democrats. So anyone who is centralist and liberal will be seen as left wing and the whole 'commie pinko' thing realy stained US culture with a mistrust of thinking, compasion and anything that's outside a rather ingrained right wing of thinking of the US. This is maintained by bigger gaps between the rich and poor and a rabid consumer socierty than other countries, mostly fed by the amount of land available in the US compared to 'old' Europe.

Personaly I feel there is a growing liberal side to the US, or progressive to give it's more acceptable name. There is a new kind of devide that is spliting the US between the intellectual haves and the intellectual have nots. Due to state control of education that gap is also growing.

Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with being a liberal here in the USA. The only group of people that liberals seem to threaten occupy the west wing of the White House.

The sad thing is that when you talk to Americans mostly they ARE liberal. I find them kind, generous, warm friendly people. It is just that liberal has become a term of abuse in the USA.

So there is nothing wrong with being a liberal in the USA, it's just you don't want to be called a liberal.

And the saddest and most perplexing thing is that this nation full of kind generous people has created such a hard and cruel society.

Main thing wrong is that you have to hear the mindless ravings of neo-cons about liberals. Actually, you don't even have to be a liberal. Half of their rants are intended to intimidate people out of being liberal.

(By the way, I'm not a liberal or a conservative, a republican or a democrat. And I still have to hear those lunatic ravings.)

Labels! I hate them....I support the right to bear arms and that makes me a Conservative...however I want handgun control so that makes me a Liberal. I hate flag burning and that makes me a Conservative but I don't support an amendment banning this freedom of expression so that makes me a Liberal. I am against abortion so I am Conservative but I do not want to see Roe vs. Wade overturned so that makes me a Liberal. I support our troops in harm's way anywhere in the world so I am a Conservative however I want them out of that stupid Iraqi war so that makes me a Liberal. I watch Fox news so that makes me a Conservative but I disagree with damn near 100% of the propaganda they put out so that makes me Liberal. LIke most Americans I have both a conservative viewpoint and a liberal outlook on things. However I consider myself to be a Liberal and very proud of it. Conservatives are simply mean hateful people and I do not want to be in their league at all. Don't believe me? read all the hateful messages about Liberals that will be posted here...I rest my case.

Nothing wrong with being LIBERAL.
Only recently became an epithet.
And not much of a one at that.
so it morphed into LIBTARDS and LIBTURDS.

Critics that use "libtards" and "libturds" are people that think conservatism is about tailgate parties in the prison parking lot on night of execution.
Kill them all let God sort them out kinda guys.
Guys that favor "shoot on whim" gun laws.
possibly brain damaged
still squawking about "the hippies" kinda guys.
like that fat kid on SOUTH PARK
