At 50 you should have more sense. I'm 57 and would never walk into a shopping centre with my hood on. Yes as many have said the hoods are misused by young criminals. The security guard was justified in asking you to lower it.
There has been no recorded event of a crime committed by someone with a Muslim mode of dressing.
It is just a matter of time.
There is plenty of scope for hiding weapons etc. wearing the burkha.
The veil simply should be banned.

First, stop being stupid. Hood up hides the face and generaly makes you look more dodgy, regardless of age. You live in a socierty and what you do affects others. In the case of the muslim women they don't look like shop lifters and arnt causing people any stress, putting the religious side of things to one side.
There are times and places where you need to think more of others than yourself, and part of that is making others feel at ease. I do think that's true for those who wear veils in different situations. Teaching and one to one interviews I see as examples where a veil is not appropiate, other times it doesnt matter and cause no offense.
Quite simply having a hoody makes you look more likely to be a shop lifter and unsettles others - think of them and don't be selfish.

Its the hoody culture, you see these kids on the telly with there hoodys on and the baseball caps smashing up cars causing mayhem so some shopping centers have actually gone as far as banning hoodies, luckily yours just told you to put your hood down. Im a 23 year old girl and Ive been told I cant go into my local supermarket with my hddy on! Just coz its not part of our religion we get discriminated against!

A veil is not the unofficial uniform for an aggressive and destructive element of society, as much as we are led to believe. However, the hoodies who are roaming Britain's streets causing fear and intimidation deserve to be exposed as the cowards they really are. 50 or not, the security guard was quite right to ask you to remove your hood, he cannot discriminate between you and anybody else, nor should he.

As many people have remarked, its because we assosiate hoodies, motorcycle helmets and balaclavas with crime. While the veil is currently seen as a predominantly muslim item of clothing, surely it can't take bank robbers long to figure out that a veil is a good disguse.

because the women have religion on their side and the law will err on their side so it's not accused of religious bigotry/predujice. in the uk people have the freedom to practice their religion and they wear it on the grounds of their religion. Hoodies are usually seen to be worn by troubelsome youths upto no good. so anyone wearing hoodies in shopping centres is seen as being upto some mischief-because of the security cameras-regardless of your age. The women will get away with it-the law is sensitive to their needs.

in some shops banks etc you are not allowed to wear crash helmets or hoodies...you may be innocent but some that wear these items are there to rob the place...they want CCTV to catch the images of your faces as you enter the store...its not personal with the security guards they are just doing there job...hope this helps

I say it's unfair.
It's profiling.
If my religion calls for me to wear dynamite under my clothes should they allow it. I didn't say I'd detonate it, I just said it had to wear it.
I'm a nudist, do they HAVE to let me shop in the nude?
If a girls legs cause too much distraction can they throw her out for wearing short shorts.
If you can see an impression can they force a girl to wear a bra under her halter top?
You're opening up a pandora's box here.
A manditory dress code.
We had "gansta guys" in baggies walking out of the stores with boxes of high tech merchandise, valued at thousands.
Maybe WE should ban anyone wearing BAGGIES.
