Better communication. People have hated since the first one figured out how to pick up a rock and throw it. Now with "instant news" the world hears about it immediately and it just seems worse. I suppose that since more people hear about an incident, it can create more instant hatred -- 1/2 a world away. Hunger and poverty have been around long before 1914. And it has always been a good motivator for war -- take someone else's resources. Disease too, has always been, but people died of it and others moved on. No news there. Now "local" outbreaks of disease can become global with one plane trip. And news of the sick/dying will be broadcast all over. But consider that some diseases have been completely eliminated thru vaccines, etc. New ones will always appear (mutation). It has always been.

The world is smaller due to technology. We can put an army anywhere in the world within 24 hours. In 1914 it took 30 days just to cross the Atlantic and parts of the Pacific were still unexplored. Also, the world is more populated. Survival of the fittest. Cultures clash, more cultures have been introduced to each other. Greed, we have figured out how to make a lot of money faster and it does not matter how many toes are stepped on in the process. All of these things lead to all of the problems in your question. People suck, no matter what race, color, creed, religion, smell, look, foot size.....we all are bastards!

Do you really think it is? It depends on your perspective, but I would think overall the world is a better place than it was in 1914, though religious hatred might have increased due to frictions between East and West.

Far more people, far less resources, far more ignorance from depending on the various governments rather than self reliance
