Is it a server, what is it? I keep seein RSS on certain sites. Explain please.

RSS stands for either (1) Really Simple Syndication or
(2) Rich Site Summary, depending upon which person you cite.

RSS is a way to provide information that can be read in a newsreader or syndicated (republished) on other websites.

It is not a server, it is a file format. Most RSS files are stored as XML (eXtensible Meta Language) files. This is a structured format that is easily read and published by a number of newsreaders and websites.

You can subscribe to a news feed (RSS or Atom file) using any of a number of newsreaders or websites. It is easy to subscribe to a news feed at your My Yahoo! page or other sites such as bloglines.com.

Almost all blogs create one or more RSS feeds (files) automatically. Yahoo! news groups create RSS feeds when messages are posted. Some forums create RSS files. Most of the major news organizations create them in a variety of categories.

So, how are these files shown on a website?

It takes special programming to reproduce an RSS feed on a site.

This was rather difficult two or three years ago; now it really is simple.

One easy, and free, way is to use Feedburner.com. Simply feed your RSS file to their system and you can use their BuzzBoost code to publish either the headlines or headlines and text of the articles in the feed on any website where you can paste javascript code.

RSS is a type of news feed. various site have it there to check ur online activities and to provide u informationon that like a spyare but not a spyware. it tells u the news and gives u information only if hve signed it .otherwise nothing
