Yahoo has been repeatedly accused of collaborating with the Chinese government in the jailing of pro-democracy campaigners and journalists who give away sensitive information about the state. Yahoo hand over email account details upon the request of the Chinese government.

Yahoo has never deigned this, claiming "Just like any other global company, Yahoo must ensure that its local country sites must operate within the laws, regulations and customs of the country in which they are based."

But should Yahoo be upholding the laws of country that imprisons people who campaign for democracy. I am thankful (and do not take for granted) that I am even allowed to Post this question. But in doing so and continuing to use Yahoo are we helping to deny the same rights to other people? Should the citizens of democratic countries boycott the services of such internet companies in order to pressure a change of policy and a spread of democracy?

if what u say its true,i think we should try and do more to influence changes in those non-democratic countries in DEMOCRATIC ways, that is without invasions bombings or unlawful prison camps with rapes abuse torture....about yahoo,i dont think we should boycott it just yet,as it gives us the chance to debate this and other questions in a unique way,and to keep doing it it needs to respect local laws? but it is a door to be kept ajar!

Yahoo is in a no win situation - you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time. Much has been written here about spreading democracy in China and elsewhere, but I'm not sure any country has yet achieved democracy as its citizens would wish.

This is the Wikipedia definition of democracy:
"Democracy (literally "rule by the people", from the Greek δῆμος demos, "people," and κράτος kratos, "rule") is a form of government for a nation state, or for an organisation in which all the citizens have a voice in shaping policy. Today democracy is often assumed to be liberal democracy but there are many other varieties and the methods used to govern differ. While the term democracy is often used in the context of a political state, the principles are also applicable to other bodies, such as universities, labour unions, public companies, or civic organisations"

Oddly, there is a little Greek Island called Paros which demonstrates the origin of the word 'democracy' very well (literally "rule by the people", from the Greek δῆμος demos, "people," and κράτος kratos, "rule"). go to www.paros.gr to see how the elected on Paros serve the citizens of Paros. It is even possible to call on the Mayor without an appointment if you are prepared to wait to be seen!

After all is said and done - freedom of expression must reign as the alternative becomes censorship.

democracy is just another illusion (lie), the little people have absolutely no power, we are tax slaves, that is all!!! Even the most democratic process, ie the presidential election, is a complete farce!!! as for the chinese, they are not a bush/blair conspiracy against the world, bush/blair have had the power to intercept ANY information they see fit for some time now, and have the ordacity to call it a "patriotism" act or "anti-terrorism" act, wheras the correct name for such political acts would be the "Maximum Global Coorporation Profit" act, where human lives and suffering are incosequential to profit!!! where the Chinise Government have got it right is by not lying to it's people, they want information and they will get it, with or without Yahoos assistance!!

Just by allowing you to post your question should answer it for you. The problem is not Yahoo , but, China. If a business is allowed to open up shop in a different country, that country usually has rules to follow. I don't agree with the rules, but, business is business. If this website is allowed in China, then debate would be free to the Chinese people. How about it Yahoo?

I even have asked Yahoo multiple cases to comprise New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island interior the Canada section. by no potential even have been given an answer back. possibly they have by no potential heard of the two one. how are you able to call a piece Canada, and go away out 2 provinces? somebody desires to commence up a Canadian answer communicate board.

Never heard about China regarding Yahoo or any org that is owned and run by the Mosad.
Yahoo, AOL and other of such orgs do hand in all our personal details and messages to the Mosad and the Yankees spying nets.

doesn't matter what country we live in
there are not 'democracies',we do not have a vote on every single issue...that get's decided by someone who doesn't give a rats *** what the public wants.
Look around you, even if you live in a so- called democratic country you have very lived freedom to do what you wish.
