so you can either increase the applied voltage , V, or reduce the circuit resistance, R.

doubtful if by way of 'increasing the aptitude distinction' accross the resistor you're rasing the voltage or increasing the resistance. while you're elevating voltage, the present will boost. while you're increasing the resistance (like with a potentiometer) the present will decrease.
