Africa is an enormous continent, while Britain is a relatively small island nation. Britain is less than half the size of Madagascar, an island just off the southeast coast of Africa. The entire United Kingdom has an area of 244,820 km^2. It would seem quite insiginficant compared to the whole of Africa.
