now? Don't you feel it is necessary anymore to have a weapon in your home to protect yourself? I know i do. We have several guns in our home and i have been trained growing up on shooting and saftey of a fire arm. We live in the country so we shoot for practice here when we want too. But, what about you how do you feel about this? Also would you have trouble shooting someone if need be?

Guns are fine, but they should be a last resort, not a first reaction

I've been asked this question many times. I've taken lady friends to gun dealers, to ranges to test fire various hand guns. In the end, the choice doesn't matter as much as the training. If she can't pull the trigger in a life threatening situation, then pepper spray is a better choice. The answers above me are all very good answers for selecting a good hand gun. But first be sure a fire arm is the right weapon of choice for her. There are a number of non lethal alternatives to consider. Having said all that, in the past, I've recommended either a Model 60 S&W or the Walther PPK .380, and some pepper spray.

Don't own a gun but I have a baseball bat by the door when I'm up and put it by the bed at night. I live in a small town and don't really expect to have to use it, but it's a habit I formed while living close to the city.
If I had a gun, I'd use it if necessary. I don't think anyone would break in to a house without having some kind of malicious intent and if I were home, I'm thinking I'd be harmed or killed. So, yeah, I'd use it.

And let's face it, God forgives so I wouldn't worry about going to hell for it.

I don't have a hand gun for protection> I have dogs! And if i didn't have children, I would still have dogs:) When I'm out of my home, I carry pepper spray. I don't think anyone thinks through the intensity of shooting another person when getting a hand gun for protection... Nor do they think about the mental anguish they may suffer in taking one's life for whatever reason. If you believe in a God, what kind of judgement would he pass on you if you have blood on your hands? Are you really prepared to kill?
