Generally no, but you could check your contract to see if it provides for you to get some back if they have time to schedule another customer in your place or if they didn't already buy the materials.

Also you sometimes have three days during which you can cancel some contracts and expect to get your money back. These laws were passed to help people who were talked into a contract and later developed buyers remorse.

Last, if these guys are not performing according to the contract obligations you may be able to bring legal pressure against them in small claims court.

if you have entered into a contract it will stipulate terms and conditions regarding deposits and refunds. if it does not state that the deposit is non refundable then you have grounds to claim it back.

if you stand to lose a large sum then i would seek professional advice.
