Vacation days used were pre-authorized before the day of use. But employer states they had to let my friend go because he used too many vacation days.

He only used the days he was granted and work didnt get piled up etc because there was still other employees there to cover in his absence.

Well, he did work his butt off for these people. And he was the only one who got fired. We believe that the new shop manager was trying to get rid of most of the old "crew" so he could bring in people from his old place of employment. And we find that completley wrong.

That's B.S. they grant him the vacation days. They can't fire him for taking what they gave him. They should be sued!!

if company is at-will company they can.
did the employee not complete deadlines for work, did he let work pile up, did he call in sick a lot, was he out more than he was at work? Did he use up all vaction time and still continued to go out? Answer to these questions is yes then that could be reason why he was let go.

If an employee quit, sometimes employers will tell you the employee was fired so that you won't think you should quit too. This usually happens when an employer has difficulty retaining employees and people quit due to low pay, find better jobs, etc

They can fire you if you had unexcused absenses from work. Maybe the boss made an incorrect statement.

You cannot use too many vacation days. You cannot use vacation days that you don't have.

sounds screwy to me we have vacation time at my job you can put in for it whenever you would like all though that doesn't mean you can have the days requested if all is well and were not short handed or the likes of we can have the days requested other wise we must reschedule maybe your friend took days anyways when he was needed

Is he in a "Right to work " State? If so they don't need a reason. If he is in one of the States that have employee rights he can talk to Department of Employment.

Depends on the company policies. If your friend was a valuable employee, they would work with this. I'd guess it was a good excuse to let him go when they wanted to. He needs to try harder at his next job to become valuable.
