Most people do not ever look at the bulbs they buy, 90% of people just grab bulbs and go alot of power companies have power surges that put out voltage up to and sometimes above 130 volts, its always a good idea to buy 130 volt bulbs just incase you do have a power surge, most "long life" bulbs are 120 volt, so you're not saving anything buying them

When you buy light bulbs look at the package and it will have the bulb life which is around 700 hours which would be about 1 month if you left it on 24 hours a day. Some bulbs are rated are rated for much longer but you have to look around to find them. The fluorescent screw in bulbs are rated for about 8000 hours and the price of them is starting to come down quite a bit. These type lights cant be used with dimmers and are supposed to be used in dry locations only. They are not supposed to be used in totally enclosed recessed fixtures either. Heres a web site that sells regular bulbs with a 10000 hour life span.http://www.buylighting.com/subcat.asp?catid=231

yes some bulbs do burn out faster. when your looking for bulbs and you see some for $.99 and there some generic brand and for $ 1.29 you see sylvania. There is a difference in the quality. better filament inside the sylvania. Incandescent bulbs usually last about 1500-2000 hours. They sell bulbs called compact fluorescent. these bulbs last about 7000 hours and use less energy. a 60 Watt compact fluorescent uses only 13 watts of energy. A money saver and good for places where they are hard to change.

u may find that if you have faulty electrics in your home that this will increase the speed at which bulbs blow.
the speed of light incidentally whilst being approximately 180 000 mps in a vacuum has actually been recorded as slow as 38 mph traveling through sodium at -200 degrees.
