I don't think the general gay community would out you against your will. Why would they want to? Are you a celebrity or politician?

It's not like "the general gay community" takes a weekly vote on whom to out. Most gay people couldn't care less.
There are lots of gays who are closeted professionally and out socially. Virtually every gay GOP staffer in DC lives that type of life. But if you make an enemy, you run the risk of being outted if that person (whether they are gay or straight) knows you're gay.
Or you might just run into someone who doesn't realize you're in the closet and accidentally get outted.
Truthfully guy, I'd say you're likely to be a whole lot happier if you just live as an out gay person. Sounds like you're heading in that direction, albeit slowly. One step at a time dude. Good luck!

I would think that if you entered a gay community, you have already outed yourself to them. I can't see any of them being mean enough to out you to you family or friends. They are all quite aware of the fear of coming out and should respect your wishes. Just remember, should you run into anyone from school or work in the gay community, they will likely be just as paranoid as you. Just say Hi to them and try not to say 'fancy meeting you in a place like this'. It will just make things worse.

Not sure I understand what you mean by 'enter a gay community', actually. Do you mean going to gay bars, or moving to a 'gay' area, or what? Most of us don't live in communes or ghettos, we tend to live in the same world as everyone else.

It would be very, very unlikely. It would probably not even be brought up and, if it is, most recognise it as a personal decision. The only exception is if you are a public figure who demonizes gay people while being gay yourself.

I think most GLBT people understand the damage that can be done when one is outed against their will. My answer would be no.

That is your choice to be out or not. doesn't matter where you are at the time. Why are you giving your power away?
Don't worry, be happy!
