Try your credit card (if you have the pin no) in an ATM - it should give you what you need. - ie withdraw sterling. Failing that, try going into one of the big hotels (four or five star) - they usually have foreign exchange desks - you'll probably get stung on the rate, but if you are desperate.......

The Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Peter Street smack in the middle of Manchester City Centre has a currency exchange counter.

ATM machines will give you sterling if you have a credit/debit card you can use.

Last option is to get the taxi to wait at the airport while you go to the Bureau, but many don't like to do this so I'd ask first before you get into a fight !

Good luck.

Try some top notch hotels. Sometimes they can get the exchange rate and swap your currency for pounds.
I use to work in a hotel, get the exchange rate off the internet and swap for the value of the money. The manager may need to pass this. You may need some ID.

Hope this helps a bit.. good luck

I always keep $100 stashed away in a sock at my house. I have done this since I was first on my own. Also keep $25 in ones in my car under the back seat taped up. If it gets stolen, so be it. But I have had serveral emergencies where these amounts have come in handy. Consider doing this for your future. Never cash paychecks. It's something subprime people do. Try to distance yourself from ever doing this. You deposit checks. Never cash them. --- Curious, could you mention the bank? It is rare now "a-days" that debit cards come without the visa or master card logo on them. If if has that logo on them, you don't need your pin number, you just run the card as credit.

Have you asked the reception at the hotel you are staying at? They should be able to change it for you or at least advise you where to go to change it.
