i was given the following:
Using a 1000mg/L Fe solution. pipette the amount required to make up 100mL of 50mg/L Fe solution into a 100mL volumetric flask.

you are given a 1000mg/L solution and are supposed to make a standard solution of 50mg/L. this means you must dilute your original solution 20times. (1000/50=20)

use a clean burette/pipette to place 5ml of the original solution into your volumetric flask. then top it up with deionised water to the stated 100ml. there you have it, a standard solution which was diluted 20x from the original.
