I know that from the appearence of life as it is today, it all seems inherently unfair, however are there any views to suggest differently, and that life is fair?..........

This question has nothing to do with me having a bad day, i'm just analysing the thought that so many of us say life isn't fair, and can any of you actually see fairness in life...there is never just one side is there?.....

Of course life is not fair. If it were, we'd all be rich & thin & deliriously happy. If it were, innocent people wouldn't suffer & evil ones be rewarded. No one said life was fair.

What we can hope for though? Karma. The evil will be punished and the good rewarded, if not in this world, then in the afterlife. So perhaps, in that sense, life is fair.

But if life were fair, would I have to be at work today, with a killer headache, cramps & feeling like Hell on 1 hour's sleep!

The philosopher who argues most passionately and extensively that life IS fair and just is Plato. His longest and best known argument for this is in the dialogue 'Republic', and there are arguments of similar kinds in his dialogues 'Gorgias', 'Laws', and 'Philebus'. Plato believed in the axiom attributed to Groucho Marx, "time wounds all heels" (i.e. bad people eventually suffer for being bad), and he belived that good people are rewarded for being good. But Plato's defense of these views involves reasoning that is doubtful, to say the least. For example, he argues that bad people are all really unhappy, even if they don't admit it, or even know it.

My own view is that life is not just or fair, but that being just and fair is still more satisfying than being unjust or unfair to others. Perhpas if enough people came to see that this is true, we'd have a better world.

Of course life is not fair.

Is it fair that some kid is born in America, with every luxury at his fingertips, while another child is born in wartorn Darfur? Is it fair that some are born beautiful and others ugly? Some strong, and others weak? Some gifted and others simple? Anyone who claims that attitude is all you need is naive beyond belief.

But I will say this - life doesn't have to be fair, because in the eyes of G-d, we are all judged equally, and according to our gifts. A person given more gifts has more responsibilty to use those gifts properly. An American who is granted wealth must use that wealth to help others. The strong have a special obligation to help the weak. Everything ultimately becomes fair in the World To Come.

no no no no no no life isnt fair at all. although good times usually weigh more than the bad ones there are times u feel like uve been cheated out of everything u ever wanted. thats the whole point. this life is just temporary. at the end of the day, if u can pull through theres heaven and hell. which are totally fair in their simplicity. bad = ouch :(. good = yay.:)

Since everyone feels that life is unfair to some degree or the other, we can say that life is fair as it doesn't favour anyone so much as to make him feel like claiming that it is totally fair.!!

Ever hear the phrase, life is what you make it? Well, that's very very true. Alot may seem unfair when it comes to "trying" to accomplish something. I have been known to say quite alot,"Why must everything I try to do be so difficult all the time?" But, really, it's HOW you react towards any situation that decides quite alot. Remember, "If you don't succeed, try and try and try and try again!" : )

Depends on how you want it to be..how you beleive it to be ..life is a set of shifting illusions/prespectives and it is amenable to moulding...when you play with silly putty, do you decide whether its good or bad ? fair or just ? you just make it into what you want...just like life.Life is never going to be unfair unless you expressly desire it/do nothing to change it.

No life is not fair. Nothing is "fair". I think the more we are aware of this fact the easier our lives will be.
