It depends really solo would have to be a guitar, but, in an actual band, the bass guitar controls the tempo of the band. (This is in my own personal opinion.)
Its mainly on the type of music you like though...but a lot of the things that are played can be, somehow, remade on the guitar.

Piano. You can play such complicated, rich, wonderful music, with all 10 fingers. No instrument has more great music written for it than piano. Takes a lot of technique to play well though.
Guitar is next. Since it's not as mechanical as piano (strings in direct contact w/fingers), it doesn't take as much experience to bring out expression. You can really voice a guitar easily. Can be so expressive. Love it.

i like the guitar because you can do solos, be lead or rythm guitars
it is more challenging because you can use 4 fingers
guitar can play the whole song and sound like it unlike drums
